Buxus microphylla Faulkner

Small evergreen shrub with lime, green glossy foliage. Dense habit, ideal as an alternative to common english box,  can be used for topiary and clipped low hedges, formal gardens and container planting. Grows to 30-60cm.  Feed with dolomite lime every season to help maintain lush colour.  Buxus microphylla 'Faulkner' is a cultivar of the small-leaved boxwood, a popular evergreen shrub in the Buxaceae family. 'Faulkner' is known for its compact, rounded growth habit and dense foliage. 

Probably best grown as a dense topiary ball with regular pruning can be kept to 50cm tall and wide. It has a dense, bushy habit and maintains a rounded shape without much pruning. The leaves of 'Faulkner' boxwood are small, oval-shaped, and glossy dark green. They are densely packed on the branches, creating a lush and formal appearance. The foliage retains its color well throughout the year.
Faulkner' boxwood is a hardy cultivar and can tolerate a range of environmental conditions but prefers partial shade to full sun. Grows well in various soil types, including well-draining soils. Ensure the soil is kept moist but not waterlogged. Proper watering is important, especially during hot and dry periods.

While 'Faulkner' boxwood has a naturally compact growth habit, light pruning can be done to maintain its shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. Prune in early spring before new growth begins. Avoid heavy pruning that may result in bare patches.

This boxwood cultivar is commonly used for formal hedges, topiary, or as a foundation plant. Its dense foliage makes it suitable for creating borders or edging in garden beds. It can also be grown in containers.
Faulkner boxwood is relatively low-maintenance. Regular watering, mulching, and occasional fertilization can promote healthy growth. Monitor for common boxwood pests, such as boxwood leafminers and boxwood psyllids, and take appropriate measures if infestations occur.
