Westringia fruticosa Mundi

Westringia fruticosa ‘Mundi is a compact, spreading form of Australian native rosemary, valued for its soft grey-green foliage, neat groundcover habit and small white flowers from spring through summer. It typically grows around 30–60 cm high and 1–2 m wide, making it excellent for borders, slopes, retaining walls, mass planting and low-maintenance gardens. It is evergreen, drought tolerant once established and particularly useful in coastal or windy Australian conditions. 

For best results, plant ‘Mundi’ in full sun to light shade, ideally in well-drained soil. Water regularly during the first growing season while the roots establish, then reduce watering as the plant becomes drought tolerant. Avoid persistently waterlogged positions. A light prune after flowering or during the growing season helps maintain a dense, attractive shape, although ‘Mundi’ naturally forms a tidy mound and often needs little pruning. Use a low-phosphorus native fertiliser if feeding is required. 

For companion planting, choose other Australian natives with similar sun, drainage and water requirements. Lomandra, Dianella, Grevillea, Correa, Leptospermum and Banksia create an attractive, wildlife-friendly combination, while grasses and groundcovers add contrasting texture. For a coastal or Mediterranean-style garden, lavender, rosemary and other drought-tolerant plants also work well.
