Rhagodia spinescens ‘SAB02’ PBR, Aussie Hedge Bush™, is a hardy Australian native saltbush prized for its fine, silvery blue-grey foliage and dense, naturally rounded growth. It forms an attractive hedge or mounding shrub approximately 1–1.6 m high and wide, providing year-round structure and excellent foliage contrast. Its tough nature makes it particularly useful for screening, borders, windbreaks and low-maintenance native gardens. 

In Australia, plant Aussie Hedge Bush™ in full sun to part shade and in soil with reasonable drainage. It adapts to sandy, clay, acidic, neutral and alkaline soils and is highly tolerant of drought, frost and coastal conditions. Water regularly while plants establish, then gradually reduce watering as they become established. Apply a light native fertiliser if required and mulch around the root zone, keeping mulch away from the stem. Light pruning in autumn and spring helps maintain a dense, neat hedge. 

For attractive companion planting, combine Rhagodia with other Australian natives that provide contrasting foliage, flowers and textures. Westringia, Grevillea, Callistemon, Dianella, Lomandra,  and Chrysocephalum work particularly well. Flowering plants such as Grevillea and Callistemon can add colour and support nectar-feeding wildlife, while strappy plants such as Lomandra and Dianella create strong textural contrast against Rhagodia’s silvery foliage.
