Sizing guide

Bred in New Zealand by leading Magnolia breeders, Felix and Mark Jury, Magnolia Black Tulip is glorious. This woody tree grows well in most climates, tolerating all but the coldest temperatures. It performs best in the sun and enjoys protection from strong winds. In early spring the reward is a mass of magnificent, 15cm black-purple, goblet-shaped flowers. Magnolia Black Tulip™ is an upright smaller tree growing to a height of 3.5 metres, making it suitable for smaller gardens, or featured in larger landscape plantings.

Magnolia 'Black Tulip' is a hybrid magnolia cultivar that is known for its deep reddish-purple, goblet-shaped flowers that resemble the shape of tulips. The flowers appear in early spring, before the foliage emerges, and have a light fragrance.

It is a relatively deciduous small tree, and is suitable for small gardens and landscapes.

Magnolia 'Black Tulip' prefers a well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter and slightly acidic. It also requires regular watering and protection from strong winds and direct sunlight. In terms of pruning, it is recommended to prune only lightly to maintain the natural shape of the tree.
