Sizing guide

Eucalyptus ficifolia, commonly known as Red Flowering Gum, is a striking evergreen tree native to Australia. It boasts vibrant red flowers that bloom in summer, attracting birds and pollinators. To grow this magnificent tree, choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Young saplings should be watered regularly, but once established, they are moderately drought-tolerant. Prune after flowering to maintain shape and promote new growth. Red Flowering Gums are hardy and adaptable, but they prefer a warm, Mediterranean-like climate. With proper care, this species can thrive in gardens, parks, or as a stunning focal point in landscapes, adding beauty and biodiversity to any setting.

The red flowering gum is one of the most widely cultivated of all eucalyptus both in Australia and overseas. It often grows larger and more vigorously in cultivation than in its natural habitat. The species is best suited to temperate districts with low summer rainfall and humidity. It can be grown in sub-tropical areas in well drained, sunny positions but cannot be regarded as reliable in those areas. In suitable climates the tree is moderately fast growing and may eventually reach 15 metres but is often smaller. Foliage is dark, glossy green and the bark is rough and persistant (ie it does not shed annually).
