Feijoa sellowiana, also known as pineapple guava, is a small evergreen tree ideal for espalier due to its pliable branches and attractive grey-green foliage. It produces striking red and white flowers in spring and fragrant, edible fruit in autumn. Espaliered against a wall or fence, it adds both structure and productivity to gardens with limited space.

In Australia, Feijoa thrives in temperate to warm temperate climates, making it well-suited to Melbourne, Sydney, and coastal regions. Plant it in a sunny spot with well-drained soil and shelter from strong winds. While drought-tolerant once established, it benefits from regular watering during fruit development and hot spells.

Train young branches onto a trellis or wire framework, pruning in late summer to maintain shape and encourage airflow. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring and mulch annually to conserve moisture. Espaliered Feijoas require less space while still producing abundant fruit.
