Acmena smithii minor, also known as Dwarf Lilly Pilly, is a compact Australian native shrub ideal for hedging and screening. It features lush green foliage, vibrant red new growth, and small white summer flowers followed by edible berries that attract birds. At maturity, it typically reaches 2–3 metres in height and 1.5–2 metres in width. However with consistent pruning can be kept to 80cm tall.

This variety is well suited to Australian gardens due to its adaptability to various soils and climates, including coastal and urban environments. It performs best in full sun to part shade and benefits from regular watering during establishment. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant.

Prune regularly to encourage dense growth and maintain shape, particularly for formal hedging. A slow-release native fertiliser in spring enhances foliage colour and overall health. Mulching around the base helps conserve moisture and suppress weeds.

Suitable companion plants include Lomandra ‘Tanika’ for contrasting texture, Grevillea ‘Peaches and Cream’ for flower interest, Dianella caerulea for colour and form, and Syzygium ‘Cascade’ for layered screening.
