Bush Rose ‘Cécile Brunner’ is a charming heirloom rose loved for its masses of small, perfectly formed soft pink blooms with a light, sweet fragrance. Often called the “Sweetheart Rose,” it flowers prolifically from spring through autumn, bringing a romantic, cottage-garden feel to Australian landscapes. This bush rose has a graceful, rounded habit and typically grows to around 1.2–1.8 metres high and 1–1.5 metres wide, depending on climate and pruning. It suits feature planting, rose borders and classic cottage-style gardens.

In Australia, plant Bush Rose ‘Cécile Brunner’ in a sunny position with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. It grows best in rich, well-drained soil improved with compost and benefits from regular deep watering during dry periods, especially through summer. Feed in late winter, after the first flush of flowers, and again in mid-summer with a quality rose fertiliser to encourage repeat blooming. Prune in late winter to shape the plant, remove dead or weak growth and promote fresh flowering stems. In Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and many temperate regions, it performs beautifully with good airflow and consistent moisture.

Suitable companion plants include Lavender, Nepeta (Catmint) and Salvia, which complement its soft pink blooms while attracting pollinators and softening the base of the shrub. Mulch well to keep roots cool and suppress weeds, keeping mulch clear of the stem. Bush Rose ‘Cécile Brunner’ is ideal for adding old-world beauty, fragrance and long-lasting colour to Australian gardens.
