Strelitzia Bird Of Paradise
Strelitzia, better known as the Bird of Paradise Plant, creates a tropical elegance with its large green leaves and magnificent flowers. Regarded as one of the spectacular varieties of houseplants, Strelitzia ensures prolific growth and great blossom splendour with good care. Here at Online Plants, we have three species of Strelitzia plants which are extremely popular among Australian landlords and gardening enthusiasts. They include Strelitzia Reginae, Strelitzia Juncea and Strelitzia Nicolai.
Strelitzia Reginae is highly recognised for its bright coloured cut-flowers that last for around four weeks. With optimal care, these plants can grow up to the height of two metres and bloom for years. This species is relatively unpretentious and can thrive magnificently with minimum care. Planting them in an airy, warm and sunny spot promotes flower growth. Nutrient-rich, potting soil in loamy consistency is suitable for these plants. The leaves emit much humidity, so the plants should be watered on a regular basis.
Strelitzia Juncea is a great feature plant that grows in the driest regions. They have very thin, reed-like leaves, and dense growth habit, making them a lovely ornamental plant. These plants grow to a height of 2 metres and produce large yellow or orange flowers which are borne on cylindrical scapes. The flowers are smaller than those of Reginae, but look just as spectacular. Junceas are slow growing plants and prefer a sunny spot in the garden. Planting them in well-drained, compost rich, moist soil and watering them regularly is highly recommended.
Strelitzia Nicolai, also known as Giant White Bird of Paradise, has plenty of amazing features that add a touch of elegance to your landscape. They produce dark purple and white flowers in spring and summer as that of the size of Reginae. With an ability to grow to a height of six to eight metres, these plants serve the screening purposes. They are pretty tough to withstand drought and light frost. It is highly recommended to plant them in well-drained, compost-rich soil in a sunny position in your garden to promote their healthy growth.
